THE Yorkshire and Humber Seafood Group is celebrating winning a nationwide first for the seafood industry by achieving the Customer First Standard.

The award, says the organisation, shows how firmly the values of good customer service are rooted in the projects delivered by the Seafood Group and is an impressive accolade for the industry in the region.

In order to achieve this standard, companies must fulfil set criteria that demonstrate that they consistently ‘Put the Customer First’ at a time when customer service excellence can offer the competitive edge.

This criteria includes: Understanding business objective; honesty and transparency in service; targeted, relevant and appropriate services; an impartial and objective service; and appropriately trained and developed staff.

Carl James, project manager of the Yorkshire and Humber Seafood Group said: “This is a great achievement for us, as we are the first organisation to achieve this accreditation within the seafood industry nationally.

“Since 2002, we have kept the delivery of good customer service at the centre of our working objectives.

“Our customers range from the general public to individuals from across the catching and processing sectors and beyond.

“This accreditation is a testament to the service that we are able to offer to all, and the standards we will continue to raise in the future.”

The Yorkshire and Humber Seafood Group, which launched the ground breaking White Fish Code for processors two months ago, will hold the Customer First certification mark for two years before being reviewed again. is published by Special Publications.
