Sole Stocks Down for Belgian Ports European Fish Trader Published: 31 July, 2002
THE SEAFOOD industry in the Belgian ports of Zeebrugge, Oostende and Nieuwpoort, generated total revenue of €33.44 million in the first half of 2002, down 1 per cent year-on-year, the Belgian Agriculture Ministry has said.
The decrease was due to the low prices of sole. Revenue from the sole fishery decreased to €17.84 million for the first half of 2002. No comparative figures were available. Fishing in the three ports increased by 7.0 pct year-on-year, to 8,738 tonnes for the first half of 2002. The increase was due to the high catches of cod, ray and turbot.
