Shetland salmon will be used in a number of demonstrations this weekend as professional chefs celebrate the best of British food and drink at two high profile events in London – the Spirit of Christmas exhibition in Olympia and Henrietta Green’s Food Lovers’ Fair in Covent Garden.

The Spirit of Christmas will be held in the Grand Hall, Olympia from 3 to 7 November and is heralded as this year’s ideal venue to shop for Christmas.

Complementing this, Henrietta Green’s Food Lovers’ Fair will take place at Covent Garden Piazza from 5 to 7 November. The fair will play host to around 100 companies displaying Christmas wares and celebrity chefs conducting cookery demonstrations.

“This is the perfect opportunity to promote Shetland salmon to a discerning audience,” commented general manager of Shetland Salmon Farmers’ Association, David Sandison. “We are supplying fresh Shetland salmon to the Spirit of Christmas event where food columnist of The Daily Telegraph, Xanthe Clay, will use the fish as a centre piece for her demonstration ‘Big Feasts; Feeding Crowds at Parties’.

“We will also provide smoked salmon to the fine food fair in Covent Garden to be used by Darina Allen of the Ballymaloe Cookery School in County Cork in one of the cookery demonstrations over the weekend. A number of well-known chefs will be involved in the event, including food writer Sue Lawrence and seafood expert Mitchell Tonks.

“We are delighted that the organisers of both events have shown such enthusiastic interest in our product. These are extremely high profile events at which Shetland salmon will be playing a starring role. I can’t think of a better way to whet the appetites of Britain’s food lovers.”
