Shetland Aquaculture Producers Organisation Charts New Course To Benefit The Sector Fish Farming Today Published:  12 March, 2003

SHETLAND Aquaculture Producers Organisation Ltd (SAPO), which aims to promote co-operation among companies within the sector, has announced a change in its status and the appointment of a new chairman and directors, following an extraordinary members’ meeting last week.

Some 20 companies are members of SAPO, and discussions over recent months have focused on ways forward, which will improve co-operation in production planning and boost the existing market situation.

To chart a positive new course for SAPO, the company’s steering group has now been disbanded and formal directors appointed. Michael Tait of Aquascot/Shetland Norse has been appointed chairman, to serve for a period of one year, and joining him as directors are Angus Grains of Hoove Salmon Ltd, Ivor Johnson of Johnson Seafarms Ltd, and Karl Scott of Scottish Seafarms Ltd. Three further directors may be co-opted on to the board by members at a later date. David Sandison, general manager of Shetland Salmon Farmers Association, has been appointed general secretary.
