SFF Services Ltd scoops environmental award at Total E&P UK’s SHE Awards Published:  05 March, 2012

Two Marine Mammal Observers employed by SFF Services Ltd have scooped a prestigious safety, health and environment (SHE) award from oil giant Total E&P UK.

Duncan Gray and Moira Moore received their award in the ‘Protecting the Environment’ category at the recent Total E&P UK SHE Awards at the Marcliffe Hotel, Aberdeen, in recognition of the high level of professionalism and dedication they showed as part of the oil company’s Laggan-Tormore development project.

During the project, Moira and Duncan monitored pipelaying activities and ensured the avoidance of disturbance to marine mammals within the environmentally sensitive area of Yell Sound – a mandatory requirement identified by Shetland Islands Council and Scottish Natural Heritage.

The judges commented that their work had raised the awareness of environmental protection requirements with both onshore and vessel based teams, and their diligence ensured that TEP UK complied with all relevant regulations, thereby maintaining the company’s reputation for working safely in environmentally sensitive areas

Steven Alexander, Operations Manager for SFF Services Ltd, said: “We are delighted at this deserving recognition for Duncan and Moira, which highlights the vital environmental work that SFF Services conducts in protecting our marine environment.

“In recent years, Marine Mammal Observation work has become an important element of the SFF Services’ operation, ensuring that cetaceans are not disturbed by development work and also helping to build a picture of their occurrence around our shores.”

SFF Services Ltd is a commercial division of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation and provides a variety of vessel and support services for the offshore marine sector, particularly the oil and gas industries.
