SEPA welcomes greater focus on Scotland’s marine environment Published:  10 February, 2009

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has welcomed a greater focus on Scotland’s marine environment following the announcement of a new Scottish Government marine management body called Marine Scotland.

SEPA’s director of Environmental Science Chris Spray said: ‘SEPA, Scotland’s environmental watchdog, works to protect Scotland’s water environment. We do this through monitoring and regulation, improving the quality of lochs, rivers, estuaries, wetlands, groundwater and coastal waters so that they are sustainable.

‘We welcome this opportunity to work more closely with the government and our partner agencies to deliver a more integrated approach to protecting our marine environment and to ensuring economic growth.’
