Seafood Summit: Seafood Champion finalists announced Published:  28 January, 2008

THE Seafood Choices Alliance announced its 2008 finalists for the annual Seafood Champions awards at the opening reception of the Seafood Summit in Barcelona, Spain yesterday.

The finalists are the Association du Grand Littoral Atlantique (AGLIA, France), Australis Aquaculture (US), Bantry Bay Seafoods (Ireland), Mike Mitchell of Foodvest (UK), The Plitt Company (US), Carl Salamone of Wegmans, (US), Barton Seaver and his team at Hook Restaurant (US), Sunburst Trout Company (US), Bart Van Olphen of Fishes (Netherlands) and Cindy Walter of Passionfish Restaurant (US).

Mike Boots, director of the Alliance, said: “The finalists this year represent five different countries and each one has contributed to the sustainability and future of the seafood industry. Without their work and dedication, their sectors would look very different. We commend them for their passion and effort and encourage others to follow their example.”

The Seafood Champion awards highlight leadership, dedication and passion in the increasingly complicated global seafood arena. The awards will be announced at the Alliance’s reception at the Boston Seafood Show on February 24.

The Seafood Summit is an annual conference organised by Seafood Choices Alliance and convening the leaders of the sustainable seafood movement.
