SEAFISH is offering ten bursaries of up to £500 to fishermen wishing to attend the Seafood Choices Alliance Seafood Summit in San Diego, California, next February.

The Seafood Summit brings together global representatives from the seafood industry and conservation community for in-depth discussions, presentations and networking with the goal of making the seafood marketplace environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

Jon Harman, development director at Seafish said: “It is important that there is good representation from the UK catching sector at this event, which is why Seafish is offering these bursaries to help with travel and accommodation costs.

“Fishermen from the UK are leading the way in the sustainability movement, and by working together, we can encourage a shared responsibility for the future of our industry.

“Fishermen tend not to attend this kind of conference: by providing bursaries to attend, we hope that they will be at the centre of debate and talk more about the progress we have made in responsible fishing.”

The Seafood Choices Alliance is now accepting proposals for presentations, panels, and workshops that address critical topics related to sustainable seafood and the seafood market, paying particular attention to this year’s theme, “Sharing Responsibility for Real Change”.

Melanie Siggs, UK director of Seafood Choices Alliance commented: “We are grateful to Seafish for offering this opportunity to fishermen as it is important for the Summit to have good representation of all stakeholders including the catching sector.” is published by Special Publications.
