Scot Trout MD celebrates 10 years at the helm Published: 23 February, 2006
MUIR Hunter, group managing director of Scot Trout Group, is celebrating 10 years at the head of the Bellshill based company which has grown under his leadership into the UK’s leading producer of trout and smoked speciality fish.
In the last decade Muir has been instrumental in increasing annual turnover from £12m to £50m and has seen the company’s market share for trout increase from 22 per cent to 85 per cent since 1996.
Muir has also overseen the acquisition of the RR Spink & Sons, Daniel’s Sweet Herring and Marinades of Scotland brands.
Being presented by staff with a fish-shaped cake to mark the anniversary, Muir Hunter said: “Scot Trout started as the UK’s first trout cooperative in 1983 with eight members and 16 trout farms and today we are now one of the country’s leading producers.
“The seafood sector is an exciting and increasingly challenging industry and I would like to pay tribute to all the staff at Scot Trout for their hard work in making the company what it is today.”
Muir’s experience stretches over 30 years in the food manufacturing industry including brands such as Mr Kipling, Cadbury and Heinz and directorships at RHM, Hazelwood Foods and ABF.
He is also former chairman of Motherwell Area Enterprise Ltd and a member of the Scottish Food and Drink Strategy Group.
Scot Trout Group is located across three sites (Bellshill, Arbroath and Nairn) with 470 staff and a £50m turnover. The Group produces fresh trout and salmon; smoked trout, salmon, mackerel, haddock; sushi components; and Rollmop herring.
