Salmond delays Bill Published:  14 July, 2004

SNP ex-leader Alex Salmond has moved the second reading of the Fisheries Jurisdiction Bill from this Friday to the 15 October 2004 in order to prevent the government from talking the Bill out.

Mr Salmond said the postponement may allow him to stave off defeat.

The bill calls for the UK to leave the Common Fisheries Policy, with fisheries management devolved to the Northern Ireland Assembly, Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and the UK Parliament (in regard to England).

Mr Salmond is still planning to present a massive petition, collected by the Cod Crusaders, to the House of Commons on Friday.
