Whitefish value behind, but pelagic businesss on the up at Peterhead

STATISTICS issued by Peterhead Harbour Trustees confirm that the volume of white fish handled at the port is on a par with last year’s figures.However,value is more than £5million behind.
The figures for the seven months up to July 31 show that a total of 24,693 tonnes were handled at a value of £26,938,658.
This compares with 24,665 tonnes of white fish worth £32,284,340 handled over the same period of 2001, a drop of £5.3million in value terms.
But mackerel business is well up, 21,019 tonnes worth £9,067,411, compared with 16,608tonnes worth £4,097,992
Herring/argentine business is also up,11,305 tonnes worth £2,179,586 compared with 7777 tonnes worth £1,837,095.
