Ocean Safety has delivered the first thousand Mullion compact lifejackets to fishermen in Scotland as part of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) initiative to supply every fisherman in Scotland with a Personal Flotation Device (PFD).

Ocean Safety will deliver a further 4000 lifejackets to the scheme over the coming year, bringing the total to 5000.Ocean Safety’s Aberdeen branch, which is committed to providing an extensive service to the local fishing industry, played a key role in securing the contract by demonstrating a high level of expertise and the proficiency of their facilities. The new Mullion PFD Mark 3 version was chosen by industry experts and fishermen during a research programme to find the best product for the scheme.  The Mullion was considered to offer the best solution for safety, comfort, durability and design.Aidan Morrissey, Aberdeen Branch Manager comments “The roll-out of the first 1000 lifejackets has been implemented with great success. We extend a huge thanks to the RNLI, Marine Scotland and the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen for their invaluable contribution in the process.”Derek Cardno, Marine Safety and Training officer at the SFF, adds “The scheme has been incredibly successful so far and we will continue to encourage more fishermen to apply for their PFD in 2014.”Ocean Safety has played and will continue to play an important role in providing training and advice to fishermen around the country during organised handovers of the PFDs.The SFF states that it is committed to improving safety at sea, and is encouraging fishermen to wear personal flotation devices and also raise the overall awareness of the importance of safety within the industry. The fishing industry is vital to many communities across Scotland and the safety of fishermen who operate in a dangerous working environment is extremely important.
