Newlyn processor joins seafood 'bloggers' – Fishupdate.com

NEWLYN-BASED Robin Turner is the latest industry figure to write a web diary or ‘blog’ about his life in the seafood industry.

Mr Turner is an auctioneer, wholesaler, processor, retailer, boat agent, chandler and fuel supplier in the port of Newlyn in Cornwall, and will no doubt have countless tales to tell to interested readers through the Seafish website.

Robin joins Seafish ‘bloggers’ Jimmy Buchan, fisherman and one of the stars of BBC’s ‘Trawlermen’ series; Mark Petrou, winner of the Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition; and David Pascoe, Cornish fisherman and lifeboat crewman on the Seafish website at www.seafish.org.

One of the best known figures in the south west fishing industry, Robin can be seen buzzing around Newlyn market and also helped to organise the recent local fish festival. He works closely with organisations such as Seafood Cornwall to ensure that quality is always at the top of the agenda, so that fishermen, buyers and sellers are dealing in the best fish available and getting the best price for their produce.

In his ‘spare’ time, Robin is Company Secretary of Seafood Cornwall, Director of The Duchy Quota Co, Chairman of South West Pesca and a member of the Newlyn fishing industry forum. For relaxation, he chairs Penzance and Newlyn Rugby Football Club and is a director of Penzance and Newlyn Rugby Ltd.

Robin’s enthusiasm for the industry will undoubtedly shine through in his blog and his ‘get up and go’ attitude is evident. Robin says: “The way forward is selling best quality fish, from the best quality boats that are fishing in the best multi-species, sustainable fishery.”
