New Report On Labelling European Fish Trader Published: 22 April, 2002
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), in conjunction with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources (DoMNR) has published the first report on fish and aquaculture product labels, to assist the Irish industry to comply with regulations governing fish labelling.
The report is the latest in a series of guidance notes for the food industry produced by the FSAI, outlining the scope of regulations that apply to food products. The report outlines examples for labelling mixed products such as seafood platters and labelling of products originating from another EU State or from outside the EU. Traceability and enforcement of the regulations are also detailed in the publication.
According to Dr Patrick Wall, Chief Executive, FSAI, the guide will have a major role to play in helping both the regulators and the seafood industry achieve a higher standard of compliance with regulations and good practice generally, therefore safeguarding consumer health.
