New global seafood group moves into Grimsby Published:  12 April, 2010 THE international food group Towers Thompson has set up a new seafood operation in Grimsby – at the same location as one of the failed  British Seafood subsidiary businesses. The company said that the ” unexpected collapse of British Seafood presented us with an opportunity to set up a UK based Seafood Trading Company, “Towers Thompson Seafood Ltd”, which will complement our German Seafood business, Rassau Seafood GmbH, based in Hamburg.”The opening of Towers Thompson Seafood Ltd  just outside Grimsby where Bloomsbury International was based ,supports the company strategy  of becoming a major force in the import and distribution of frozen seafood into the UK and European markets.Tower Thompson said in a statement: “The new company will be headed up by Nick Wilson (Managing Director) and Jason Letch (Sales Director) who are supported by an experienced team who were previously part of Bloomsbury International Limited.   Towers Thompson Seafood will initially focus predominantly on the import and distribution of cod, haddock, plaice, pangasius, yellow fin sole, squid, salmon and prawns.”  The statement added: “TT Seafood will be working closely with both new and existing suppliers and customers as well as collaborating with Rassau to maximise their buying power and ensure that they have continued access to a wide range of products to enable them to meet their customer’s exacting requirements.  TT Seafood has already established an exclusive agreement for the supply of top quality single frozen IQF Fish Fillets and portions from Murmansk.  Their quality control team is already in place overseeing the production of the first containers which are destined for the UK market.”Towers Thompson, which has a customer base in 50 countries and annual sales of £190 million,  is a leading, International Food Group specialising in the import, export and distribution of chilled, frozen and cooked meats and poultry.  In addition, the group also sources and distributes a wide variety of fish, seafood, vegetables, dairy products and convenience foods.
