Nationalists bid for new cod research Fishing Monthly Published: 29 October, 2003
SCOTTISH nationalist MSP for Banff and Buchan Stewart Stevenson today lodged an emergency parliamentary question in an attempt to persuade the Scottish Executive to carry out scientific research into the effect of climate change on cod stocks.
The question was not selected by the Scottish Parliament’s Presiding Officer, but the SNP MSP has pledged to continue to raise the issue.
Mr Stevenson said:
“At a time when Scotland’s fishing communities are having their toughest time in years it is vital that the Scottish Government leave no stone unturned in putting their case forward.”
He went on: “The research carried out into the effects of climate change on fish stocks could provide an alternative scientific case to that of the European Commission’s scientists.”
