Marine Harvest Norway to close processing plant at Halsa, Meløy in Nordland Published:  23 May, 2007

FORTY three jobs are to go as the Norwegian division of Marine Harvest shuts a processing plant.

As a result of the merger between Marine Harvest and Fjord Seafood the merged company has two processing plants at Helgeland; Halsa and Herøy.

After “thorough analyses,” the company has identified major potential cost reductions by concentrating the harvesting volumes in the region Nordland in one of these plants. As part of the ongoing efficiency programme and finding synergies in the merged company, the decision has been taken to close the plant at Halsa, Meløy community as from August 1.

The closure will affect 43 full time employees. During the whole analysis process there has been a dialogue with the employee representatives and the communities involved, according to Marine Harvest, which have been kept informed about the situation.

Marine Harvest Norway say they will immediately, in cooperation with the employee representatives, identify possible actions and find alternative solutions for those affected.
