Marine Harvest closes Chile processing plant Published: 15 April, 2008
MARINE Harvest Chile has closed one of its three processing plants (Chinquihue) in Puerto Montt.
The company said it closed the plant as a result of the Infectious Salmon Anaemia outbreak which has led to a reduction of harvesting volumes.
According to Marine Harvest, the closure will affect around 600 employees at this stage.
“The closure is part of a larger restructuring of the Chilean organisation which will continue in the coming months. This restructuring is necessary to ensure the short term viability and the long term development of the aquaculture industry in Chile, where Marine Harvest will play an important role,” the company said.
