Lerwick lifeboat aids fishing vessels Published:  17 July, 2006

LERWICK lifeboat was called out twice today to assist two Banff registered fishing vessels in difficulties around Shetland.

The 23 metre Discovery with five crew on board hit the rocks near Wether Holm, off Whalsay,at lunchtime.

Lerwick lifeboat was launched and managed to tow her off the rocks and two hours later. Shetland Coastguard said that there was no “apparent damage” to the vessel’s hull. However, she made for Lerwick for an inspection.

Earlier today, the lifeboat was launched to bring pumps to the Banff registered fishing boat Adele.

The Adele (BF425) with four crew on board was taking in water off the island of Mousa when the skipper alerted Shetland Coastguard.

The crew got the pumps to work and the lifeboat then escorted the Adele back to Lerwick harbour where they arrived at 5.20am.
