Legal Moves Delay Solway Harvester Report Fishing Monthly Published:  12 May, 2002

The Isle of Man’s Attorney General has decided to proceed with prosecutions in connection with the loss of the Scottish fishing vessel Solway Harvester in January 2000.

As a result, he has asked the Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents, John Lang, to defer publication of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s report into the loss of the vessel until the criminal proceedings are complete.Mr Lang has agreed to postpone publication so as not to prejudice criminal proceedings and has written to the families of the seven men who lost their lives in the incident to inform them of his decision. In his letter he said:”I have taken legal advice on this development and have been informed that in the circumstances I have no option other than to comply with this request.

“I am acutely aware that this will not be welcome news and deeply regret having to postpone the publication of the report yet again.”
