NORWEGIAN fisherman Leif Gunnar Bjarke last week netted a 240 kilo (529 lb) heavy halibut, fiskeribladet.no reported.

Mr Bjarke is not sure how much money he will get from the local fish buyer, but reportedly believes that he would have been able to get more if the halibut catch had been more evenly distributed between several smaller fish.

According to a professor of marine biology at the university of Bodo, Men Stig Skreslett, the world’s largest halibut, weighing 266 kilo, was netted in Iceland. The professor believes that the huge halibut caught by Mr Bjarke has been swimming in the sea since the 1950s and is over 50 years old.
