Industry Guilty Of Poor School Links Fishing Monthly Published:  09 May, 2002

A FISHING industry spokesman today admitted the

industry had been guilty of a significant failure because it had not developed links with secondary schools.

But George MacRae, of the North-east Scotland Fishermen`’s Training Association said that industry recruiters were getting a positive response from schools stretching from Golspie in the North of Scotland to Arbroath.

“There is an appalling ignorance in schools over what the industry has to offer in terms of a career. But that is not the schools’fault-we as an industry have been guilty of a significant failure in developing links with secondary schools in order to displel the myth that the industry has no future, but now things have changed dramatically.”
