THE Icelandic prime minister Halldor Asgrimsson yesterday announced his resignation as prime minister after poor local election results and amid fears for the Icelandic economy. He is to remain in charge of the Progressive Party for now but foreign minister Geir Haarde is to replace him in the top job.
