Haddock share set for undershoot Published:  12 December, 2007

THE UK’s North Sea haddock quota now looks certain to be undershot this year, according to the latest uptake statistics.

Uptake was at 66.2% of entitlement last week and today Hamish Gordon, the chief executive of the Aberdeen Fish Producers’ Organisation said he reckoned the final uptake level for this year would be around 75% when catching ends for the year.

North Sea cod uptake is running at around 93.5% of entitlement which Mr Gordon agreed, was in line with expectations.

Whiting is running at around 79% of entitlement and saithe, 85.1%.

“I do not think there is any way th UK is going to net its full haddock entitlement in the North Sea for this year,” Mr Gordon added.
