Rules guide aimed at ending problems
Guidance Aims To End Confusion Fishing Monthly Published: 23 August, 2002
NEW GUIDANCE from the UK Fisheries Departments aims to provide clear and understandable summaries of what complex legislation on technical conservation means in practical terms for fishermen.
There has been a difference of opinion between the Scottish Executive and the industry over the interpretation of the European cod recovery legislation. One purpose of the guidance is to set out the Executive’s interpretation. Scottish fisheries minster Ross Finnie said:”This guidance aims to provide a clear summary of what the legislation amounts to in practical terms. It is a pragmatic approach to a complex set of regulations. The Executive recognises that there has been a great deal of confusion about the precise meaning of these regulations. I hope the publication of this guidance will end that confusion.”
Technical Conservation legislation is mostly produced by the European Commission and is complex and can appear ambiguous.
