Growing optimism over haddock search Published: 27 February, 2006
A BID to try to secure enough haddock to match last year’s UK North Sea catch is making good progress, an industry leader said today.
Mike Park, the chairman of the Scottish White Fish Producers’ Association said today that discussions on sourcing additional tonnage from various sources were going well.
“Hopefully we are now on track to secure an equivalent tonnage to last year.It looks now therefore that we will secure enough tonnage to match last year’s catch although talks are still ongoing.”
Mr Park paid tribute to Scottish Executive officials for their help but he also condemned any individuals tempted to “play games” with the industry by unjustifiably holding back quota availability.
