A 69 year-old German tourist is leaving Norway with a great “big fish” story to tell, Norwegian news source Aftenposten has reported.

Dieter Krüger of Hamburg returned home exhausted and slightly shaken after hooking a halibut on Norway’s Sognefjord that weighed in at 105 kilos (231 pounds).

It took Mr Krüger three hours to reel in the fish to his little plastic boat, with a rod designed for fish up to 20 kilos. He said it was fortunate that a local hotel offered to buy the whole fish as he didn’t have room for it in his campervan! is published by Special Publications.
