Fisheries ministers outline implications of Scottish independence Published:  02 July, 2014

THE Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) has received replies from both the Scottish and UK fisheries ministers providing their answers to key questions on the implications for fishing should there be constitutional change.

In the SFF’s letter to Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead, and UK Fisheries Minister, George Eustice, the Federation underlined that as an organisation it is apolitical and cannot take a view on independence.

But it has been charged by its members to ask questions so as to provide more clarity that will enable individual fishermen to make their own minds up. The letters to the two ministers and their replies are posted on the SFF website, www.sff.co.uk

Bertie Armstrong, SFF chief executive, said: ‘We are delighted to have received replies from both ministers, which are now in the public domain on our website. Our executive committee will review the letters in due course for a detailed analysis.
