Fish processing company hooks seven figure funding to enable MBI Published: 04 January, 2006
AN experienced food industry specialist has led a Management Buy In (MBI) at prestigious London-based fish processing company MacKenzie Brothers after securing seven-figure funding from Bank of Scotland Corporate.
Arnold Lewis, who led the MBI, has over 33 years experience in the food industry, having worked within food retailing for companies such as Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer and for manufacturing giants such as Northern Foods, Hazlewood Foods and Grampian Country Food Group. MacKenzie Brothers was established 60 years ago in Spitalfields Market and is now based in Gillender Street in Bromley by Bow. Funding from Bank of Scotland Corporate has enabled Arnold to purchase the company from Stuart and Carla MacKenzie, who have run the business for some 40 years.
With a current turnover of £8million and 40 employees, MacKenzie Brothers purchases fresh fish directly from Billingsgate Market and from ports across the UK and oversees. This is then processed at its London site, producing a diverse range of ready prepared fish for the food service industry. MacKenzie Brothers also purchase and distribute an increasingly wide range of frozen fish, sourced from across the world. The business has a strong and loyal client base, which include key food service companies, major hotel chains and a number of exclusive restaurant groups and Michelin starred restaurants in and around London and the South East.
