SPECIAL Publications, part of the The Oban Times Group, has moved to significantly strengthen its position in coverage of the aquaculture sector with the acquisition of Fish Farmer magazine from Addlestone, Surrey, based Amber Publications.

Fish Farmer,a bi-monthly established in 1977, reaches a world wide audience as it is circulated to key personnel in every country in the world with a viable aquaculture industry.

The purchase means that Fish Farmer will join Special Publications Marine Division’s existing monthly titles Fishing Monthly, European Fish Trader and Fish Farming Today which cover commercial fishing, processing and aquaculture respectively.

The Marine Division also launched www.fishupdate.com, a daily news website for the fishing industry last April which is now well established.

A spokesman for the Oban Times group said:“This is a very exciting development for us as Fish Farmer has a considerable reputation in the aquaculture sector and we aim both to maintain its high standard and enhance the service it provides to a sector of the fishing industry which is becoming more and more important.”

Stuart Banks, proprietor of Amber Publications and previous editor of Fish Farmer, commented: “I have very much enjoyed the 20 years I have been associated with the fish farming industry and watched its rapid growth.

“ Now two years past my official retirement age, I think it is time for a well-resourced younger team to take over and keep pace with this dynamic sector which looks as though it will be expanding and diversifying even faster in the coming years. I wish Special Publications every success in their endeavour.”
