SNP MEP Alyn Smith is to spend a day working with Scottish Sea Farms at its salmon farm in Kishorn, Wester Ross in order to learn more about the industry.

Mr Smith is on a two week work experience tour of Scotland and will be joining the team at the fish farm on Monday, July 30. The trip has been set up by the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Smith said; “Over the last couple of years, working my way around Scotland in the summer has been one of the best experiences I’ve had.

“This year I’m heading to Wester Ross for my first work experience at a fish farm to work with Scottish Sea Farms at Kishorn.

“I’ve been told I’ll be doing fish husbandry so I’m looking forward to discovering what that entails.

“As an MEP I know that a lot of EU legislation affects fish farming and that, particularly in the salmon industry, people have concerns about a range of issues from environmental controls to the impact of the Norwegian producers on Scottish prices.

“I’m expecting to learn a lot on my day there and to have a fair few issues to raise when I get back to the Parliament in September.”
