SCOTLAND’S First Minister Jack McConnell was today accused of seriously misleading the fish processing sector.

Robert Milne executive director of the Scottish Fish Merchants’Federation said that while Mr McConnell had announced a rates relief package for the beleagured sector months ago, he was not aware of any fish processor-certainly in the North east of Scotland-receiving any assistance.

He added :”I believe that the First Minister seriously misled us and I deplore the way our sector is being treated by him.”

Meanwhile the fisheries development partersnhip meeting in Aberdeen heard scientific advice that the haddock stock is ser to deteriorate quite substantially over the next two to three years because the last good year class recruitment was back in 1999.
