Finnie meeting with SNP leader “constructive” Published: 12 June, 2006
PROBLEMS facing the pelagic sector were high on the agenda today at a meeting between Scottish fisheries minister Ross Finnie and Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond.
Afterwards,a Scottish Executive spokesperson said:
“The meeting was constructive and covered a wide and varied range of topics. A number of issues were raised by both parties with the Minister clarifying on some issues of procedure. Both parties agreed the need to fully involve industry representatives
in discussion as to the future and way forward for the seafood industry as a whole and in particular at this moment the pelagic sector.
“Steps are already underway with the formation of a pelagic strategy group. Several of the issues raised by Mr Salmond were already very close to being resolved as the issues had previously been identified through consultation and discussion with industry
representatives, and actions put in place.”
