Crusaders Plan Fish Giveaway As New Link-up Goes Stage Further Fishing Monthly Published:  12 March, 2003

DIRECTORS of the Fishermen’s Association have unanimously approved the creation of a corporate membership category to enable the 120 member strong Northern Ireland Fish Producers Organisation (NIFPO) to affiliate with them. The Northern Ireland grouping is holding a Board meeting on 15 March when it is expected that the link-up will be endorsed.

FAL says one of the main objectives of this grouping of UK interests will be to change the UK’s political climate to secure national control — the repatriation of the United Kingdom’s 200 mile/median line limits.

Meanwhile, partly due to the “hugely significant” campaign by the Cod Crusaders, FAL’s Board has also decided to create a women’s section to “recognise and benefit from” the contribution which women have made to the “socio economic” development of the UK fishing Industry.

And in a demonstration organised by the Cod Crusaders tomorrow (Thursday) to highlight “rock bottom” fish prices which are adding to the crisis in the UK fleet already burdened with EU restrictions, campaigners will give away free haddock fillets in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
