THE Crown Estate today welcomed the launch of the Government’s Marine Bill white paper.

The Estate said it believes the proposals will simplify what is currently a very complex set of legislation.

“We welcome the Marine Bill white paper launched today which aims at simplifying the complex regulation and legislation governing the UK’s coasts and seas,” said Ian Grant, Chairman of The Crown Estate.

He added: “Over the past year we have worked closely with DEFRA through the Marine Bill Steering Group which has enabled us to share our knowledge and expertise in an area which has significant importance and value to the UK. We believe the Marine Bill could provide an invaluable opportunity for the UK to create sustainable future uses of the marine environment and to ensure that it is better understood.

“Alongside the passage of the Marine Bill, The Crown Estate will continue to invest in its capabilities to manage our Marine Estate to enable us to marry our knowledge and experience with the increasing challenge of spatial planning requirements within a continuously changing environment.

“The Marine Bill White Paper presents some important decisions to be made regarding how we go about planning for the future of our coasts and seas, The Crown Estate looks forward to playing its part by working closely with Government in delivering this important new legislation which has the potential to benefit us all,” commented Mr Grant. is published by Special Publications.
