Councillor Hits At Lack Of Consultation Over Ardtoe Future Fish Farming Today Published:  06 February, 2003

THE future of Seafish’s marine farming unit at Ardtoe in Ardnamurchan is still unclear.

But a Seafish spokeswoman told fishupdate that it has had “positive” meetings with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Lochaber Enterprise identifying a number of ways in which they can work together.

She said the Seafish board had approached them to see if they could find ways in which they can get involved with the site either on a partnership basis or full buy-out. But the process will take time

“Whatever happens, Seafish wants to ensure the best possible outcome for the many loyal and highly qualified staff working at the site.”

Meanwhile a councillor has called for an urgent meeting and a stay of execution of six months for the facility.Councillor Michael Foxley, councillor for Ardnamurchan and who chairs Highland Council’s land and environment committee, has written to Seafish chief executive John Rutherford criticising the lack of consultation over the proposed closure.
