Conference Attendance Disappoints Fish Farming Today Published: 05 September, 2002
THE number of trout farmers attending an annual conference at Sparsholt College at Winchester is smaller than expected.
But a spokesman for the event said today that they fully appreciated difficulties in letting personnel from small farms with only a handful of employees attend.
The conference runs until tomorrow and has a varied programme with speakers from a number of countries including Denmark, The Netherlands, England and Scotland covering a broad range of topics ranging from recirculation to feeding systems and promotional aspects.
Commenting on the level of participation, Shaun Leonard, head of fisheries studies at the college said: We were hoping for more trout farmers but we appreciate that many small farms have only two to three employees and therefore they cannot really afford to let anyone attend.
He had also hoped for more attendance at the British Trout Association annual meeting tying in with the event.
