Coastguards to receive award Published: 22 September, 2004
TWO members of the Coastguard team at Hillhead are to receive a commendation from the chief coastguard for their efficiency in saving the life of an elderly woman.
On 20th March this year, the pair came across an elderly lady laying on the public footpath in Privett
Road, Gosport, during a routine patrol, according to a Maritime and Coastguard Agency statement.
The lady had been blown over by very strong winds and was in and out
of consciousness and then went into cardiac arrest and showed no
signs of life. Hillhead Deputy Station Officer, Ian Bishop and
Coastguard Bob Smith quickly initiated full cardio pulmonary
resuscitation, including breathing for the casualty.
The lady was taken to hospital by ambulance and was sitting up in bed
later that day, the statement said.
The duo will receive the Chief Coastguard’s Commendation for their
meritorious service at 19.30 for 20.00hrs on 22nd September at Solent
MRSC, 44A Marine Parade West, Lee On Solent, Hants, PO13 9NR.
