Coastguard alert as fishing vessel hits trouble Published:  19 September, 2006

AT 10.40am today, Aberdeen Coastguard received a Mayday from the Banff registered fishing vessel Arcana, reporting that it was taking on water, 7 miles north of Macduff.

Coastguards requested the assistance of RAF Rescue Helicopter 137 from Lossiemouth, which can accommodate two pumps onboard, to head for the scene and assist the Arcana’s five crew members, to pump out the excess water.

Aberdeen Coastguard also requested the assistance of the RNLI all weather lifeboats from Buckie and Fraserburgh and the inshore lifeboat from Macduff.

Later Aberdeen Coastguard said the vessel’s crew had been able to cope with the water ingress by using the vessel’s own pumps and the Arcana was now heading back to Macduff with lifeboat escort. is published by Special Publications.
