Chair of Soil Association Aquaculture Standards Committee Published: 17 December, 2010
The Soil Association is Britains premier organic food and farming organisation. We are looking to appoint a chair of our Aquaculture Standards Committee to lead the development of our organic standards in this area.
Your role will be to lead the committee in making recommendations for changes and additions to our aquaculture standards, in line with organic principles and the aims of the Soil Association. This process has to take into account changes in regulations, improvements in technology and advances in understanding, whilst balancing consumer expectations and impacts on all stakeholders. You will need to have:
* empathy with our aims and objectives * good experience of and authority within the (organic) aquaculture sector * experience of chairing meetings and reaching collective decisions * the ability to assess technical information from other disciplines.
You will also need to set aside your own particular interest for the greater good of the standards and the integrity they uphold – chairs and members join our standards committees as individuals not as representatives of a company or other interest.
The appointed chair will need to commit some time to the post. The committee meets up to three times a year and has occasional discussion via email and conference call. The chair will also be required to attend the Standards Board up to three times a year as a representative of the Aquaculture Standards Committee. This is an unpaid post, however travel expenses will be reimbursed. Meetings are usually held in Bristol, London or Edinburgh.
If you are interested please contact Kathleen Hewlett, Standards Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are with CV and covering letter. The closing date is 15th January 2011.
