THE Pure Salmon Campaign has called on Pan Fish to lead the way in responsible fish farming.

This week, the UK Competition Commission approved the merger of Pan Fish and Marine Harvest, thereby creating the world’s largest salmon

farming company.

Commenting on the news, Andrea Kavanagh, director of the Pure Salmon Campaign said: “As owner of Pan Fish, the world’s largest salmon farming company, John Fredriksen has a historic opportunity to transform the salmon aquaculture industry and to turn the tide on efforts to save global wild salmon stocks.

“The Pure Salmon Campaign urges Fredriksen, the farmed salmon industry leader and a passionate wild salmon fisherman, to adopt salmon production that eliminates disease transfer, waste pollution and escapes. The Pure Salmon Campaign also calls upon John Fredriksen to ensure that fish used for salmon feed is sourced solely from sustainable fisheries.

“Mr Fredriksen has the opportunity to raise the standards for the salmon farming industry, setting an industry benchmark that protects the environment and proves that good business and responsible stewardship of our oceans is an investment that will pay dividends for generations to come.” is published by Special Publications.
