Busy weekend for MCA as fishing vessels hit trouble Published:  29 August, 2005

THE Scottish fishing fleet was hit by a double drrama at the weekend

when two vessels were lost.

Aberdeen Coastguard co-ordinated the rescue of seven

crewmen yesterday afternoon after an

emergency call was made at 4.40 p.m. reporting the 28m Peterhead

registered fishing vessel Harvest Hope PD 120 was listing

heavily and in danger of sinking.

The vessel was 35 miles north east

of Peterhead at the time. The fishing vessel Fruitful Bough then reported that her crew could see a liferaft and that the Harvest Hope was going down by the stern. At that point all communication was lost with Harvest Hope.

The Fruitful Bough managed to rescue everyone from the liferaft and

reported to the Coastguard that there were no injuries

amongst the crew. The fishing vessel then proceeded towards Peterhead

to land the rescued men.

In a separate incident, at 14:04hrs yesterday, Shetland Coastguard was advised that the fishing vessel Fertile II BF 740m was sinking 80 miles north east of Lerwick, Shetland. The crew were rescued quickly by the FV Aquarius, and the Ninian Oil platform provided good communications support, the MCA reported.
