Norwegian police are investigating an attempt in the early hours of Saturday morning to sink a Norwegian whaling ship, the  ‘Sofie’, while she was berthed in Svolvær harbour.

The ship’s owner discovered that a  bilge valve had been opened and he was able to save the vessel before she sank. The extent of the damage to the ‘Sofie’ is not yet known but ship was emptied of water over the following 24 hours.
