Association sets the pace on pelagic RAC Fishing Monthly Published:  08 June, 2004

ONE of the European Association of Producers Organisations (EAPO) most important internal working groups, the Northern pelagic working group, has begun discussions with the European Commission regarding the establishment of a Pelagic Advisory Committee (RAC). Representatives of the pelagic working group met with Commission officials on Friday June 4th to discuss the setting up of a Pelagic RAC which would have responsibility for the reviewing the management arrangements regarding the herring and mackeral fisheries within the CFP.

“If the Commission agrees to set up the pelagic RAC as proposed by our pelagic working group, this will be a major achievement for EAPO,” said President John Goodlad. “Our pelagic working group represents all pelagic vessels from all member states and is therefore the ideal template on which a pelagic RAC should be based.”

The EAPO bureau also held one of its regular meetings in Brussels on Thursday June 3rd when policy papers regarding the future of the marketing Regulation and the next round of FIFG structural aid were discussed.

The EAPO General Assembly will take place in Killybegs on October 8th.
