AQA 2009 – recognition and inclusion for the aquaculture industry, Published:  21 April, 2009

The first AQA – Aqua Farming International Exhibition – will be held alongside the World Fishing Exhibition (WFE) from the 16-19 September 2009.

Held at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre within the newly built hall, over 3,000 sq metres will be dedicated to the aquaculture exhibition, providing a platform for the industry to meet, do business and discuss all aspects of the future of this vital food production business.

AQA will benefit from the same features that make the WFE truly unique. The launch will be supported by a targeted media campaign and the presence of the influential authorities in fisheries attending the Fifth Fisheries Ministers Conference. In addition, the First World Summit on Fisheries Sustainability will be held in Vigo at the same time, an initiative of the Minister of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, in association with the FAO and the Imperial College, London. These reasons are a big incentive to manufacturers of equipment destined for the aquaculture sector to exhibit their latest technology and new products.

Andrew Webster, President of World Trade Exhibitions, technical organisers of the event, recognizes that thanks to Aqua Farming International “the aquaculture will receive the recognition it deserves”, adding, “We are also finalising plans for the AQA Conference programme being developed in co-operation with the European Aquaculture Society”. “With a little over six months to go, it is exciting that so many companies have acknowledged and committed to the WFE and AQA. For the first time, WFE will include national pavilions from Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan. These are in addition to the ten national pavilions already confirmed from western European countries. We are confident that we will exceed the figures of the last WFE held in 2003, when 800 companies from 80 countries participated. We are also targeting the big emerging countries in the fishing field, especially those from Southeast Asia”.
