Absorbency expertise used in new seafood packaging range Published:  25 September, 2013

Sirane’s expertise in absorbency has been put to good use in a new range of mats and liners for seafood packaging – a market crying out for new technologies.

The company’s new Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh range of absorbent liners quickly and effectively absorbs the melting ice and juices released during transportation. The liquid is absorbed and trapped inside the Sea-Fresh liner to prevent spillage and reduce odour.

A new machine – designed and built by Sirane’s in-house engineering team – now allows for far greater flexibility in the range, with almost any size or absorbency now available.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director for food packaging, said: “We’ve worked closely with seafood companies and they’ve told us that this product range is exactly what they need. They need high absorbency over a sustained period of time in a range of sizes.

“We’re made a few final refinements based on feedback, and the product is now perfect.“Sea-Fresh liners are excellent for lining crates of seafood, soaking up large amounts of water and fluid from the crates, meaning it arrives at the destination in a much better condition.

“The cold crate packed with fish will remain cold and dry, optimising the condition and appearance – and in many cases the value or ultimate saleability – of the contents.”

Our new range of Sea-fresh pads is designed using the latest material and process technology

specifically for this application. Features and benefits include:• New pad format to increase the absorbency, rate of absorbency and to trap the liquid inside the pad. Fish stays cooler, dryer and fresher as a result.

• Extensive range of sizes and absorbency levels to suit every packaging format including plastic crates, polystyrene boxes and others. Custom sizes and formats to meet every application, however demanding.

• Clean, hygienic and approved for use in food packaging and transport applications. Manufactured in our BRC/IoP accredited factories to the highest quality and hygiene standards.

• Attractive, lightweight and easy to use.

Simon Balderson, MD, added: “We also offer full technical support to advise the optimum product for every application. We have added new production machines which allow us to meet all volume requirements and offer short lead-time and very competitive prices.

“We can produce exactly what the customer wants at an attractive price. Not only that but we can offer extremely high levels of absorbency which are perfect for seafood.

“There are a number of products in the market – but many of them have been around for a long time and use outdated material and process technologies. Others in the market have limited performance and are only available in fairly limited sizes.”
