Aldi has invested £45m in UK seafood business
The discount supermarket chain Aldi has invested more than £45m in its seafood business over the past 12 months, it has revealed.
This increased investment is part of what the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket says is its ongoing commitment to “championing British quality” and supporting more UK suppliers.
The list includes Aldi’s 30 plus different varieties of salmon. It is also a major boost for its Scottish supplier, Thistle Seafoods, which has been the supermarket with seafood for more than 20 years with coated fish, fish cakes and its specially selected frozen cod and haddock.
The investment has seen Aldi, which is now the UK’s third largest fish retailer, continue to expand its British-sourced fish offering with 20 new products launched in 2024 already, including its British pollock, chunky breaded cod and haddock.

Aldi works in collaboration with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) to drive continuous improvement of fisheries. To ensure its products are sourced responsibly, Aldi uses certification programmes such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for wild-caught fish and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) for farmed fish and seafood.
Last year Aldi was also named as the MSC UK Mid-size Store Retailer of the Year for increasing its number of MSC certified fish and seafood products.
